Ashley Douglass is a wedding planner and founder of Ashley Douglass Events. She is combining her experiences in theater and the hospitality industry to take the wedding stage.

Meet: Ashley Douglass

I previously worked in the hospitality industry for 7 years, where I was an event and wedding coordinator for catering companies and venues. I also have a background in restaurant consulting and operations. Prior to joining the hospitality industry, I was in theater. I had been performing professionally since the age of 7 or 8. Theatre is like an event – you collaborate, you are pressured by a deadline and everything needs to be perfectly in order for the moment to just happen well. And so the culmination of my experiences prepared me well to become a wedding planner.

I love that planning events allows me to combine both my passions and my strengths. Designing a vision, telling a story and orchestrating a performance all while collaborating with people from all walks of life.

What brought you to the wedding industry?

While working as an event and wedding coordinator for catering companies and venues, I established many relationships with my past clients. I had started to work for myself and about a year and a half later, I set up shop! Although I knew I would be doing this one day soon, at the time, it just happened!

What is your favorite moment at a wedding?

My favorite moment at a wedding is before the bride walks down the aisle. It gives me goosebumps every time and I am a crier!

What is the best part about your job?

The best part about my job is luckily also the job itself! I love getting to be creative and work closely with my clients. It’s a much more satisfying experience rather than working with a greater volume of clients. We value the relationships we forge with our clients knowing there is no single formula to event planning or design.

Where do you draw inspiration from when preparing for each wedding?

I draw inspiration from my surroundings – museums, nature, home design, travel and magazines. You have to look up and all around to gather different details that make their way into your brain for future inspiration!

Share something that is unique to you and/or your business.

Right before I started to work for myself I took a brief hiatus and went to graduate school for marriage and family therapy. I do think I am very good at dealing with all the personalities that fall into the pot of wedding planning. As a current client of mine says, “Ashley you are a born diplomat”! I can bend to whatever crowd or circumstance comes my way. I always seem to fit into the families that I work with.
