Meet: Justin McCallum

I studied everything from darkroom film processing to combat photography to studio lighting at Tufts University and the School for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. I’ve put that to the test shooting many weddings across the North East, and have been published everywhere from the New York Times and Reuters to Boston Magazine and WedTexts.

What brought you to the wedding industry?

As the youngest of too many cousins, I attended countless weddings growing up and always loved the outpouring of love and atmosphere of joining families together. When it came time to start working as a photographer, it was a no brainer, and I have loved it from second shooting at studios to creating my own business.

What is your favorite moment at a wedding?

When the couple finally hits the dance floor, it signals that its time to really let loose and have fun after all of the stress that goes into that day. I love when it’s a slow sway to an old crooner or when every guest is out there bouncing to a crazy beat. As a photographer, I just see endless potential when folks start to boogie!

What is the best part about your job?

My style is all about capturing joy! I look for belly laughs, lens flare, outrageous dance moves, quiet moments, but most of all L-O-V-E. And I get to surround myself in that every weekend. It’s an honor to be a part of such a special moment!

Where do you draw inspiration from when preparing for each wedding?

I look to the couple for 99.9% of my inspiration. I want to tailor my services and how I work to fit their needs, personality, and specific love story. While Pinterest and parents may have tons of ideas, I want your wedding to reflect you.

Share something that is unique to you and/or your business.

I am film photography trained and still love shooting in it (in addition to digital), if my couples are interested in it!
