Meet: Lauren Sozmen
I was born in Paris and moved to New York at the age of 8. I studied marketing and studio art in college at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After college, I spent over a decade of working in hospitality in New York City for some of the world’s top chefs and restaurateurs, like Thomas Keller and Daniel Boulud, Drew Nieporent, and Gabrielle Hamilton.
What brought you to the wedding industry?
The restaurant industry was no longer what I wanted and I knew I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. I started my own event planning company in 2009. Due to the recession, corporate events were dead, but weddings survived and I fell in love with planning them.
What is your favorite moment at a wedding?
This is a funny one for me, but fixing the bride’s dress before sending her down the aisle is always my favorite and the best moment!!
What is the best part about your job?
What I love most about my job is when I begin as a complete stranger to a couple and then eventually get to play a major role in their wedding and celebrate with them a very special day in their lives. When all is said and done, making new connections and lifelong friends is the most rewarding part of the job.
Where do you draw inspiration from when preparing for each wedding?
I love the fashion and the art world for the creative aspect of planning a wedding. I also draw a lot of inspiration from all my years in high-end hospitality. At the end of the day, we are in the business of taking care of people and creating memories.
Share something that is unique to you and/or your business.
I am involved in every part of the planning and the day itself. Although I have a team, the client feels truly taken care of from beginning to end and know I am there for them.
