Meet: Jacqueline Schlossman
I’ve always loved the way moments and light collide in a photograph and how the world can be transformed through the camera. Pictures can communicate emotions and create lasting bonds between generations. Photography has taken me on so many unique adventures throughout life and introduced me to so many unusual facets of the world. I started making pictures in high school, and ever since then photography has had a huge role in my life! I’m originally from Southern California, but my home base is Brooklyn, New York. I love to travel for weddings or other photographic projects.
What brought you to the wedding industry?
I’m fortunate to be a member of a collective of wedding photographers called READYLUCK. We share a unique approach to documenting unions that emphasizes creating an authentic narrative of the day for our couples. As a photographer, I’ve always been very interested in storytelling. When I started documenting weddings, I realized how much couples and their families would really appreciate a photojournalistic narrative of their day that incorporated organic moments and creative portraiture. There’s so much artistry and individuality that goes into planning a wedding, and I really enjoy being the one to craft the lasting document of the union and celebration. The many emotions and nuances to capture throughout the day, make it very gratifying.
What is your favorite moment at a wedding?
One of my favorite moments at a wedding is photographing the couple just after they’ve exchanged vows and are recessing down the aisle. There’s so much joy and authenticity expressed in those 30 seconds.
What is the best part about your job?
The best part about my job is being present on such a momentous and celebratory occasion in the lives of my couples. Creating lasting imagery that families can reflect upon for years to come is a real honor.
Where do you draw inspiration from when preparing for each wedding?
I am inspired each time I photograph a wedding by the couple’s bond and the new situations I find myself in. Such a diversity of people, interests and emotions coming together with flair and artistry! I love incorporating the environment of the celebration into the photographs and really focus on telling a story.
I refresh my vision by working on personal art projects, visiting museums, spending time with friends and traveling to new lands (most recently, Vietnam). My colleagues from READYLUCK and I give each other feedback and help refine one another’s visions.
Share something that is unique to you and/or your business.
I am so lucky to be a member of a collective of truly creative and unique wedding photographers constantly making fresh imagery of stunning weddings. It’s so exciting to see the photographs my colleagues capture and the beautiful and organic pictures they make with their couples on the big day! We all strive to give our couples an entirely unique and unobtrusive photographic experience.
