Mikkel PaigeMeet Mikkel Paige, east coast wedding photographer and owner of Mikkel Paige Photography. She’s got an optimistic thought on her mind, nail polish on her toes, several meetings on the calendar, and a daydream for her next adventure…

Meet: Mikkel Paige

I am a wedding photographer and I LOVE it! I have been doing it for about 7 years, and full time for a little over 2 years. Before I could quit another full time job to pursue my dream, I was a professional fashion photography and product retoucher. I’ve also worked in theme park design because of my degree in Landscape Architecture.

What brought you to the wedding industry?

I have always adored weddings! When I was little I wanted to be a wedding planner. (I wanted to plan Disney Fairy Tale Weddings! Haha!) I guess I’ve always wanted to be in the industry. I’m a very creative person, a bit of a planner, and I love Love! So actually photography blends those things well because I’m often the one helping a couple create a timeline when they don’t have a wedding planner. It all just fell into place and I couldn’t imagine a better fit for my chosen profession!

What is your favorite moment at a wedding?

I loved when a dad, in his speech to his daughter and new son-in-law, said “Kristin – I was the first to hold you, and Kevin – I know you’ll be the last.” It was really sweet and a sentimental, heartfelt passing of a torch, of sorts. (I swear – it was way more joyfully tearful in person!)

What is the best part about your job?

I get to work with AMAZING couples. The brides and grooms I work with often become my friends.

Where do you draw inspiration from when preparing for each wedding?

I actually love following photographers that have nothing to do with weddings, such as some famous landscape photographers and National Geographic photographers.

Share something that is unique to you and/or your business.

I really spend a LOT of time getting to know my couples and emphasizing how important personalization is to me. I also spend a lot of time searching for every unique wedding detail. I tell people that details really make their day different from another couple’s (what colors they choose, the flowers in their bouquets and boutonnieres, the dress and suit they select, ring, etc.) so I make sure I capture them really well.
