Today, we’re introducing a member of our Menagerie Family, Tinsel & Twine. Three New York girl bosses who came together to start an event design studio, and has since grown to include over 65 designers and producers. Tinsel & Twine is redesigning the event planning process.
Meet: Erica Taylor Haskins of Tinsel & Twine
Prior to Tinsel & Twine, I worked in client management and business development at a number of luxury and niche advertising agencies. Five years ago, I decided to start a business where I use a lot of the same relationship-building skills, but now I get to work with my two best friends, Liz & Adette, designing celebrations!
What brought you to the wedding industry?
My business partner Liz had just gotten married and had the most unique, personalized wedding I had attended. This was the time before pinterest, before instagram. We were at happy hour and were inspired to produce cool, unique events for other people. So we did.
What is your favorite moment at a wedding?
I’m a sucker for the vows every time. I love when the couple is so caught up in emotion and joy that they can barely get the words out. I love when a fully dressed space is revealed to the guests and you can see their eyes sparkling as they pick up on thoughtfully planned details. And of course, I love how energy builds for a great, high-flying hora.
What is the best part about your job?
Working with brides and grooms who really “get it” and understand that a wedding is one of life’s rare opportunities to celebrate who you are as individuals, as a wedded unit, and as a community of friends and family. And importantly: That weddings should be FUN!
Where do you draw inspiration from when preparing for each wedding?
We love to get to know our brides and grooms. We always begin by asking how they met, where they like to travel, what they do on weekends. Sometimes these questions seem irrelevant to what we do, but ultimately these personal details help inform our creative process and the details we incorporate into the day.
Share something that is unique to you and/or your business.
Our army of artists and designers (aka our #ladiesonladders) is made up of floral designers, installation artists, expert riggers and fabricators, metalworkers, calligraphers, painters, etc – you name it! So we are able to accommodate a wide range of styles and big ideas. We love the challenge of building on our clients’ ideas to create something even bigger and better than what they had in mind.
